FG Moves to Strengthen Ties with States to Tackle Out-of-School Crisis

The Federal Ministry of Education has restated its resolve to partner more closely with state governments to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality education.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities is key to addressing the growing number of out-of-school children across the country.

The minister praised the Committee of States’ Commissioners of Education for organising its first peer-learning webinar, describing the initiative as timely and in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, the programme supports the ministry’s mandate to guarantee inclusive and high-standard education for all Nigerian children.

Alausa noted that solving the out-of-school challenge requires joint reforms, collective responsibility, and policies guided by reliable data. He stressed that coordinated action at all levels of government is necessary to achieve meaningful and lasting results.

He also highlighted the important role of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education in driving targeted interventions aimed at reducing the number of children outside the formal education system.

The ministry explained that the webinar would feature presentations from Gombe State alongside contributions from the National Commission, providing practical strategies and national insights to guide policy execution.

Reaffirming the government’s position, the minister assured that the Federal Government remains committed to working hand in hand with states to deliver inclusive, equitable, and quality education opportunities for every Nigerian child.
