Fubara Approves Recruitment of 12 Fire Service Truck Drivers

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the recruitment of 12 truck drivers for the Rivers State Fire Service as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and firefighting operations across the state.

The approval, according to government officials, is aimed at improving the operational capacity of the Fire Service, particularly in the deployment of firefighting trucks during emergencies. With trained drivers assigned to fire service vehicles, authorities say response times to fire outbreaks and other disasters are expected to improve significantly.

The recruitment follows recent assessments and upgrades within the state’s fire service system, which identified manpower gaps as a major challenge affecting effective service delivery.

Officials noted that the availability of skilled truck drivers is critical to ensuring that firefighting equipment and personnel can be mobilised quickly and safely during emergencies.

Sources within the state government said the decision reflects the Fubara administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and public safety, especially as Rivers State continues to experience rapid urbanisation and increased industrial activities that raise fire and safety risks.

The newly recruited drivers are expected to undergo orientation and operational training to familiarise them with fire service protocols, emergency response procedures and the handling of specialised firefighting vehicles.

Government officials added that the recruitment is part of broader reforms targeted at revitalising the Rivers State Fire Service, including personnel strengthening, equipment upgrades and improved coordination with other emergency agencies.

Residents have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the additional manpower will lead to quicker interventions during fire incidents and reduce loss of lives and property.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing investments in emergency services to ensure that communities across Rivers State are better protected and adequately served in times of crisis.
