A prominent leader in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Hon. Prince Isaac Umejuru on Sunday February 8 2026 paid a sombre condolence visit to the grieving family of the late Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, President of the Omoku Youth Federation (OYF), whose headless body was discovered following a vicious abduction and murder by suspected cultists.
The visit came amid widespread shock over the gruesome killing that has heightened fears in the oil-rich community. Azuazu was abducted on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at a popular drinking joint along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road in Omoku.
Eyewitnesses reported that about seven armed men in two vehicles stormed the spot, shot dead his aide, Chigozie Oluwu, who attempted to intervene, before whisking Azuazu away.
The lifeless and decapitated body of the youth leader — who had assumed office just two months earlier — was recovered the following day, Friday, by operatives of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) in a forest within the area.
The Rivers State Police Command has since launched an investigation into the incident, which many attribute to cult-related violence.
During the condolence visit to Azuazu’s widow, children, and extended family, Hon. Umejuru expressed profound sorrow over the “painful, unfortunate, and unacceptable” tragedy. He strongly condemned the brutal act, declaring that violence has no place in any society aspiring for progress, peace, and development.
“Such dastardly acts only set us back,” Umejuru said, appealing to youths across ONELGA to reject violence and embrace dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence.
He stressed that sustainable development can only flourish in an atmosphere free from fear and bloodshed.
The former local government chairman also urged security agencies to conduct a thorough probe and ensure the perpetrators face justice without delay.
The killing has sparked protests in Omoku, with residents demanding urgent action to curb escalating cult clashes and insecurity in the region.
