The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi after he reached a significant milestone in the English Premier League.
Iwobi made his 328th Premier League appearance during Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday, drawing level with Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah as the joint-second most-featured African player in the competition’s history.
The 30-year-old is now 25 appearances away from matching the record held by former Ivory Coast international Kolo Touré, who made 353 appearances for Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Reacting to the achievement, the NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Iwobi and expressed hope that the midfielder would eventually set a new record.
“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme said.
Iwobi began his professional career at Arsenal before moving to Everton and later joining Fulham, where he continues to feature in England’s top flight.
His latest milestone reflects his longevity in the Premier League and places him within reach of Touré’s record for the most appearances by an African player in the competition.
