Akuku-Toru Council Chairman Debunks Claims of Sabotaging Power Supply

The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, in Rivers State Hon. Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara, has dismissed allegations that he deliberately disrupted electricity supply to residents in Abonnema and surrounding communities.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Soibi Oruwari, the chairman described the claims as “unfounded,” “misleading,” and “irresponsible propaganda” aimed at tarnishing his administration’s record.

According to the statement, Mr. Bob-Fubara insisted that steady power supply was a key campaign promise he made to the people of Akuku-Toru, adding that his administration had worked tirelessly to deliver on it.

He pointed to the remarkable improvement in electricity during the 2025 yuletide season, which earned widespread praise from residents and indigenes across the local government area.

The chairman rejected insinuations that an unnamed “godfather” had instructed him to prioritise “stomach infrastructure” over public welfare, leading to dwindling power in Abonnema. He labelled such rumours as baseless conjecture with no shred of evidence.

“These allegations come from individuals and interests determined to discredit the visible achievements recorded in less than seven months in office,” the statement read.

While acknowledging that epileptic power remains a nationwide challenge affecting Nigeria, Rivers State, and Akuku-Toru alike, Mr. Bob-Fubara stressed that recent fluctuations were not caused by the local government council.

He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing all lawful measures for sustainable and improved electricity in the area.

The chairman also defended his political collaborators, describing them as genuine stakeholders dedicated to the progress and welfare of Akuku-Toru, who would never endorse actions detrimental to the people.

Mr. Bob-Fubara urged residents to disregard unverified information and to seek clarifications directly from the council, emphasising his administration’s open-door policy.

He assured the people of Akuku-Toru that his government remained resolute in delivering the dividends of democracy without betraying public trust.
