NEMSAS Donates Boat Ambulance for Maternal Care

The Rivers State Government has taken a significant step towards reducing maternal and neonatal mortality with the donation of a boat ambulance from the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS). The Rivers State Ministry of Health shared the news on their official Facebook page today, January 29th.

The ambulance, presented by Dr. Doubra Emuren, Program Manager of NEMSAS, to the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh, is aimed at improving emergency medical services in hard-to-reach areas.

According to Dr. Emuren, the donation is part of NEMSAS’s efforts to support Rivers State in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Dr. Oreh expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it will significantly strengthen the state’s emergency response system, particularly in riverine and rural communities where access to healthcare services is often limited.

The boat ambulance is expected to provide critical care and transportation services to pregnant women and newborns in need of urgent medical attention. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), which aims to reduce maternal mortality by 30% within three years.

The Rivers State Government has been working to improve maternal healthcare, and this donation is a significant boost to these efforts. With the boat ambulance, the state is better equipped to provide emergency medical services to those who need it most.
