Bayelsa Police Get New Commissioner, Daniel Iyamah

The Bayelsa State Police Command has appointed CP Daniel Iyamah as its new Commissioner of Police, taking over from Francis Idu, who was promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police.

CP Iyamah highlighted the need for policing strategies that are adaptive and inclusive, given Bayelsa’s extensive waterways, oil and gas facilities, and dynamic youth population. He affirmed that the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure remains the Nigeria Police Force’s top priority.

Having previously served in Bayelsa as Deputy Commissioner in the State Criminal Investigation Department and as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Iyamah said he is familiar with the state’s security challenges and plans to strengthen the current system decisively.

He stated that the command would maintain a zero-tolerance approach to violence and organized crime, including kidnapping, armed robbery, sea piracy, and illegal possession of firearms. Officers have also been directed to combat pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, illegal refining, and other acts of economic sabotage.

CP Iyamah stressed the importance of preventive measures to manage inter-communal tensions, youth disturbances, and election-related conflicts while ensuring overall peace and security. He urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing credible information and promoting harmony in their communities.

Outgoing CP Idu encouraged officers to support Iyamah and work closely with other agencies to enhance the safety and security of Bayelsa and its surroundings
