Rivers: Fresh Oil Spill Wrecks Kpean Community, Khana LGA

‎A major oil spill has struck Kpean community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, following a leak from Well 14 in the Yorla field under OML 11.

‎Residents say the crude oil has been gushing without control, releasing large quantities of pollutants into the environment. According to community members, the scale of this spill is three to five times worse than the incident recorded on August 3, 2025 an earlier spill they say was never cleaned up.

‎Thick layers of crude are now spreading across farmlands, creeks, and water channels. Farmers report ruined crops, while fishermen say their fishing spots have been contaminated. Many residents fear that the damage may have long-term health implications and could permanently affect their sources of livelihood.
