Armed Robbers Attack Rivers State University

Rivers State University (RSU) was thrown into chaos in the early hours of this morning after a shocking armed attack on students reading overnight in one of the faculty’s classrooms. What should have been a quiet night of academic preparation turned into a scene of terror when three armed men stormed the building through a window at around 4 a.m.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived bare-chested, their heads wrapped like bandits, and each one gripping a weapon — a machete, an axe, and a firearm. Their sudden appearance sent panic rippling through the room as students scrambled for safety.

In the frightening rush, one male student was cut with a machete while attempting to flee. He was quickly assisted by colleagues, but the scene left many shaken and in tears. Students described the ordeal as “traumatizing,” “unexpected,” and “the most terrifying moment of their time in the university.”

The victims were final-year Law students engaged in their usual night class, a routine many adopt during exam periods.

This incident adds to the increasing security concerns within university communities across the country, raising questions about campus safety, patrol structures, and the vulnerability of students who rely on night reading culture.

As authorities begin investigations and students demand tighter protection, one thing is certain: the events of last night will not be forgotten anytime soon. Many are now calling for immediate intervention from campus security, the Rivers State Government, and law enforcement agencies to prevent a repeat of such horrific encounters.

The university is expected to release an official statement soon.
