The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has emphasized that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu places high priority on judicial welfare and infrastructure.
Wike stated this while restating the commitment of the FCT Administration to enhancing judicial infrastructure and improving the welfare of judges.
He made the remark during an inspection tour of ongoing projects at the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District and the Court of Appeal Complex (Abuja Division) located in Daki Biyu District, where he noted that such investments boost judges’ confidence and effectiveness.
After assessing the progress of work, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of construction at the Judges’ Quarters. However, he noted his displeasure with the contractors handling the Court of Appeal project, citing their failure to meet agreed deadlines.
According to him, the project, initially scheduled for completion in September, was shifted to December at the contractors’ request, an adjustment he now believes is unrealistic. “I don’t think even this December they are talking about is possible.

“Yes, the work is going on well, but finishing requires a lot of time. I don’t believe they will hand over by December. Probably January, but that was not our expectation.”
On the project, he noted that “these are the things that help them carry out their duties proudly and command public trust in the judiciary.
“Judiciary must be strengthened to sustain Nigeria’s democracy.”
