Finidi Sets Daring Goals Ahead Of Champions League Clash

‎After Rivers United leapfrogged Nasarawa United to go third on the league table with a 2-1 win over Warri Wolves in Port Harcourt, the urge for more victory has become tense.

‎Although the visiting side opened score-sheets first in the encounter through Adebambo Ademola in the 25th minute, but the pride of Rivers took their ground and responded five minutes later courtesy of Emmanuel Nnaji.

‎As the encounter went on, sensational Samson Obi sealed the win for Finidi George’s side in the 58th minute, condemning Wolves to a second consecutive defeat in the league.

‎However, Finidi George, the Rivers United boss is making more demands from the team’s firepower as they shift attention from domestic momentum to continental battle, with a daunting CAF Champions League group stage opener against defending champions Pyramids FC in Egypt on Saturday.

‎In his statement, he expresses his satisfaction with the super fightback on Sunday but immediately challenges his players to raise the bar again as they prepare for Africa’s elite competition.

‎He said in words; “I’m very happy that we have scored two; maybe by the next game, we can score three. Let’s take it one game at a time. The team just have to enjoy this now and focus on the Pyramid.”

‎After the match between Rivers United and Barau FC of Kano, the pride of Rivers will  begin their CAF Champions League journey away in Egypt against the ‘sensational’ Pyramid before returning to Port Harcourt next Friday to host Moroccan powerhouse RS Berkane in their second group match.

‎The message from Finidi George is very outstanding: Rivers United must fight like gladiators, attack like warriors for victory, and sharpen their skills with every battle.
