Nigeria Funds Ten More Mobile Power Units

President Bola Tinubu committed resources to build ten extra mobile power stations across the country. He announced this plan on November 10, 2025, during a State House meeting in Abuja with Siemens Energy leaders. The delegation included Managing Director Dietmar Siersdorfer, who oversaw operations for the Middle East and Africa.

Tinubu emphasized the vital role of electricity in national growth. He explained that education, health services, and transport all relied on steady energy. The President linked the Siemens partnership through the Presidential Power Initiative to goals of better supply, factory expansion, and improved living standards.

He declared power as a key driver for economic recovery and poverty reduction in Africa. Completion of initiative phases, he added, boosted Nigeria’s standing and unlocked people and resources. Tinubu described reliable electricity as essential for industrial progress.

Attendees included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, and Energy Adviser Olu Verheijen.

Adelabu reported that Siemens delivered ten mobile substations and multiple transformers by November 2025. These upgrades added 984 megawatts to the national grid. Two of five new substations in Phase One, located at Abeokuta, Offa, Ayede-Ibadan, Sokoto, and Onitsha, finished by late 2026. The next batch covered sixteen sites and brought over 4,000 megawatts.

Edun noted project success eased business operations, created employment opportunities, and reduced hardship across communities.

Siersdorfer described steady progress and a new training center for local engineers, launched in October 2025. Nigerian workers gained practical skills on site, and thousands found jobs in surrounding areas. He called the initiative a foundation for lasting growth.

German Ambassador representative Johannes Lehne confirmed ongoing support for Nigeria’s energy reforms under Tinubu.
