The Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board (RSPHMB) has concluded the second edition of its State Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge, involving all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
The exercise, which assessed the level of leadership engagement in primary healthcare (PHC) activities, aimed to strengthen accountability and improve service delivery at the grassroots.
Based on the assessment of performance from the preceding year, the LGAs were ranked according to the Leadership Challenge guidelines.

Okrika Local Government Area emerged in first place, followed by Ikwerre in second place. Degema and Port Harcourt City LGAs tied for third place.
At an award ceremony held in Port Harcourt, the Vice-Chairpersons and Medical Officers for Health representing the LGAs received plaques and cheques from the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
Speaking during the presentation, Prof. Odu commended the participating LGAs for their commitment to improving the state’s PHC system, noting that effective local leadership is crucial to achieving universal health coverage.
