Renewed Hope Initiative Launches Agriculture Support Workshop in Rivers

The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has launched a comprehensive Agriculture Support Programme Workshop in Rivers State, designed to equip farmers, students, women, and small-scale investors with modern, sustainable agricultural skills to boost productivity and enhance food security.

The workshop, which began on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium in Port Harcourt, was officially opened by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, wife of the Rivers State Governor.

In her opening address, Lady Fubara emphasized the importance of agriculture as a cornerstone of economic development, urging participants to take full advantage of the training.

“I want to see how participants are being prepared for the upcoming agri-empowerment next Tuesday.

“Please, take every lecture seriously because it will help your business. Those in poultry or crop production will learn how to better care for their livestock and crops. Knowledge is key to empowerment.

“This workshop is a vital step in preparing you for the Agricultural Empowerment Programme coming up on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. I encourage you to pay close attention and apply what you learn whether you’re in poultry, crop production, or livestock management.”

The workshop includes hands-on technical sessions focused on key areas such as crop production, livestock care, and poultry management. These sessions are designed to provide practical knowledge and tools to improve yields and promote sustainable agricultural practices across the state.

Highlighting the significance of the programme, Professor Udensi Udensi, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Port Harcourt, represented by Professor Joseph Orluchukwu delivered a keynote titled “General Smart Agriculture in Relation to the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).”

He noted that smart agriculture is essential for addressing food insecurity, particularly in rapidly growing economies like Nigeria.

“Traditional farming methods have struggled to meet growing food demands. However, the adoption of innovative tools and smart farming practices is a game-changer.

“Government must also implement supportive policies, provide subsidies for essential tools like seeds and irrigation systems, and invest in critical infrastructure. Strong partnerships between the public and private sectors, as well as NGOs, are vital for empowering farmers with education, resources, and support,” he added.

The Agriculture Support Programme Workshop is part of RHI’s broader national initiative to empower grassroots farmers, encourage self-reliance, and strengthen Nigeria’s food production systems.
