Court remands man in prison for rape

A chief magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded a 46-year-old man in prison for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl called Miracle in the Abuloma area of Port Harcourt.

Chief Magistrate F N Amanze later referred the matter to the Director of Public Prosecution as the court lacks jurisdiction to handle the matter.

The Police alleged that the accused person, Promise Sidney, between the months of May and June, raped the 18-year-old victim repeatedly.

When the matter came up in court for hearing, lawyer to the accused, John Inyene, requested for bail for his client. However, the court rejected the bail application saying it has no powers to handle such matters.
