In a bid to improve access to basic healthcare, the African Women Mentoring and Inspiring Initiative, AWMII, in collaboration with Kirti’s Kare Foundation, the Association of Female Pharmacists in Rivers State and female medical practitioners organized a one-day free health outreach on Saturday, September 6, for women and children at the Amadi-Ama Community Health Centre in Rivers State.
The event which provided women and children with essential health services and medical education, featured free medical checkups, breast and cervical cancer screenings, malaria testing and health counselling.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of AWMII, Miss Nsisi Ikenna-Amadi said the outreach was part of a broader initiative to promote health awareness and provide accessible care to underserved communities, particularly women and girls.
Miss Ikenna-Amadi while emphasizing the importance of women’s health in sustaining a functional society, expressed concern over the high rate of cervical cancer-related deaths in Africa, which she described as alarming.

“Every woman’s health is important. If a woman is well, her house is well. Cervical cancer is one type of cancer that can be treated if detected early,” she added.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mercy Gift, a native of Amadi-Ama expressed her appreciation to the organizers for the timing of the program in their community.
“Today I ran tests and did a scan. Some of us have sickness in our bodies but we may not know. I am very grateful,” she said.
