The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has officially commenced reconstruction efforts at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
In a travel advisory released on Friday, FAAN encouraged air travelers to plan ahead by arriving at the airport earlier than usual to avoid delays or missed flights due to ongoing construction activities.
The agency also stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, using designated parking areas, and minimizing congestion by limiting airport visits to passengers only.
“We urge travelers to cooperate with traffic officers, park responsibly, and allow extra travel time to ensure a smooth journey through the airport during this period,” the advisory read. “Your understanding and patience are highly appreciated.”

This reconstruction follows the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) recent approval of over ₦900 billion for the development of key aviation infrastructure nationwide. A significant portion of this investment—₦712.25 billion—has been allocated to the comprehensive refurbishment of MMIA’s Terminal One.
According to Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the Lagos terminal will undergo a full-scale overhaul, involving the dismantling of existing systems and the installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components. The project is expected to span 22 months.
