PDP Governors Stand Firm on Convention Date, Reject Wike’s Objections

Governors belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have issued a warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others who they say “are trying to disrupt the party’s upcoming national convention.”

In a communiqué released after their 7th meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the PDP Governors’ Forum reiterated their support for the November 15, 2025, convention scheduled to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The governors urged party members to resist what they called attempts by “anti-party forces” to derail the process.

They described the PDP as the only viable option for putting Nigeria back on the path of good governance and progress.

The forum’s statement explicitly backed the decisions made during the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in July 2025 regarding the convention.

The meeting, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, also focused on national issues like insecurity and democratic erosion.

The governors praised the resilience of PDP members in overcoming defections orchestrated by opponents, stressing that these actions would not weaken the party’s widespread support.

They contrasted the PDP’s history of managing the country with what they described as the current administration’s divisive and hardship-inducing policies. The governors reaffirmed their commitment to “rescuing” the nation from its current state.

In a separate development, Wike warned of a new internal crisis if the party fails to recognise the zonal congress that elected his ally, Dan Orbih, as the National Vice Chairman for the South-South region.

Wike maintained that the congress took place in Calabar and stated that there was no way to invalidate its outcome.

He criticised the acting national chairman for allegedly attempting to postpone the congress after it had already been completed. Wike also expressed his outright rejection of the zoning committee led by Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.

The former Rivers State governor’s relationship with his former ally, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has also deteriorated, with some party members accusing Wike of anti-party activities—a charge he denies.
