Envision, a tech company focused on accessibility, has partnered with eyewear manufacturer Solos to introduce the Ally Solos Smart Glasses, specifically designed for individuals who are blind or have low vision. These glasses, equipped with cameras, can read and translate text, describe surroundings, search online, and identify people, objects, and signs—providing the wearer with information through built-in open-ear speakers within the frame.
Pricing and Availability
The Ally Solos Glasses are currently available for pre-order at a special introductory price of $399 (down from $699). They are offered in two frame sizes, regular and large, with color selections of black, gray, and brown. Pre-orders are set to be shipped in October 2025.
AI Features and Technology
Utilizing the Solos AirGo Vision glasses platform (which debuted in December 2024), the Ally variation replaces OpenAI’s GPT-4o with Envision’s “Ally” AI assistant. This assistant employs a blend of AI models, including Meta’s Llama, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Perplexity AI.
The AI features connect to the Ally mobile app (available for iOS and Android) through Bluetooth. Once paired, users can access a broad array of assistive functions:
- Text reading and translation
- Descriptions of surroundings
- Recognition of objects and individuals
- Reading of signs
- Capabilities for web searching
Design and Battery Life
The Ally Solos Glasses are constructed for resilience, holding an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. They come with USB-C rechargeable ear stems that provide up to 16 hours of active usage. A complete charge takes around 90 minutes, while 15 minutes of rapid charging can yield about 3 hours of battery life.

Accessibility in Smart Glasses
Envision has a proven history in assistive eyewear, having previously created smart glasses based on Google Glass. Likewise, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have become popular within the low-vision community due to their AI-supported vision features.
However, the Ally Solos Glasses are positioned at the premium end of the market, priced at $699 after the introductory period, in contrast to the $299 AirGo Vision and Ray-Ban Meta models. Whether the enhanced AI functionalities warrant the price difference is still uncertain.
