Port Harcourt: Justice League protest government’s exclusion

A group of physical challenged persons known Justice League on Monday, staged a peaceful protest at the Rivers State government house, Port Harcour,t demanding among other things, equal representation in the affairs of the state.

Speaking to TPCN reporter, Lorine Emenike, the State leader of the group, Mr. Pius L. C. K Barikumea, said that the peaceful protest is to call the attention of the state governor, E. N Wike, to consider including the physically challenged in his appointment of supervisory councillors in the 23 local government of the state.

He said that if the governor includes persons with disabilities in his appointment in the 23 local government, the group will be well represented even in the decision making at the state level and that the interest of this category of people will be well protected in the state.

Continuing, Mr Pius said that the discrimination confronted by persons with disabilities is alarming and so pleaded with the state governor to consider persons with disabilities in his appointment of supervisory councillors.

Also, he lauded the governor for being the first governor among his predecessors to consider appointing an S. A on disability.

He also said that the representatives of this category of persons will as well reach out to other disabled in the rural areas so as to carry them along in the scheme of things.

However, as at the time of filing this report, no official of the Rivers State Government has addressed the protesters.
