It has been reported that Ike Shorunmu once served as the goalkeeper for the Super Eagles before Stanley Nwabali took over the position and is excelling in that role…

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has commented on Stanley Nwabali’s possible transfer to the Moroccan club Raja Casablanca, as per reports.

The ex-Super Eagles and Beşiktaş goalkeeper stated that the final choice ultimately rests with the Chippa United player.

Shorunmu, who earned 36 caps for Nigeria and had a remarkable career in Europe with teams such as FC Zurich and Samsunspor, referred to Nwabali as an exceptional goalkeeper whose prime years are still ahead of him.

“In the end, it is Stanley’s decision to make regarding what he desires for his life and football career. He is an outstanding goalkeeper with the talent to thrive anywhere,” Shorunmu remarked to Footy Africa.

Nwabali, who gained recognition during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has since become one of the most in-demand African goalkeepers. His crucial saves were instrumental in Nigeria’s advancement to the AFCON final, where they finished as runners-up.

Currently representing Chippa United in South Africa, the 29-year-old has been a prominent performer in the South African Premier League.

It is worth noting that his remarkable performances for both his club and country had previously attracted the attention of teams like QPR and Al Ettifaq. Now, Raja Casablanca has emerged as the leading candidate to secure his services.

As reported by the South African outlet Unplayable, Raja Casablanca is eager to include Nwabali in their squad as they aim to assemble a team capable of reclaiming the CAF Champions League title.
