The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo, has urged members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ministry of Information Chapel, to embrace responsible leadership, respect institutional structures and contribute to the development of the ministry.
Sirawoo gave the charge when members of the chapel’s executive committee paid him a courtesy visit at the ministry’s headquarters on Monday.
He said leadership came with responsibility, urging members to use their positions to add value to the institutions they serve.
“Power comes from God, and when He gives you, He gives you for a purpose to see how you can add value to that department that you find yourself in,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary also emphasised the importance of respecting workplace hierarchy and established procedures, noting that effective administration depended on a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities.
“Every society is structured… You must structurally arrange yourself according to offices,” he said, urging members to ensure their actions conformed to institutional rules and guidelines.
Sirawoo further encouraged the chapel to embrace positive change, learn from past mistakes and adopt improved approaches to service delivery.
He described the ministry as a flagship institution whose initiatives continued to contribute to development, stressing that effective leadership required commitment, accountability and a clear sense of purpose.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ Ministry of Information Chapel, ThankGod Nwaeke, said the visit was aimed at strengthening engagement with the ministry’s management and improving cooperation between the chapel and the institution.
Nwaeke requested continued administrative support, guidance and open communication to enable the chapel to carry out its responsibilities effectively.
“We humbly request your ongoing support, open-door policy, and administrative guidance,” he said.
He added that the chapel was committed to aligning its programmes and activities with the ministry’s broader objectives.
“We want to ensure that our programmes align seamlessly with the broader goals of this ministry,” Nwaeke said.
In his vote of thanks, the chapel’s Assistant Secretary, Ledesi Emkpa, reaffirmed members’ willingness to work with the ministry’s leadership to achieve shared objectives.
“We are ready and willing to work as a team,” he said.
The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss cooperation and strengthen relations between the NUJ chapel and the ministry’s management.
