Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi will captain the Super Eagles in Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea-Bissau.
Iwobi is expected to wear the armband as regular captain Wilfred Ndidi starts the match on the bench.
The Super Eagles will face the Djurtus at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
The midfielder is set to lead a reorganised Nigerian side as Éric Chelle’s men seek a second consecutive victory in the qualifying campaign.
Nigeria opened their Group L campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo last Friday.
Iwobi played a key role in that victory and made his 102nd appearance for the three-time African champions.
The 30-year-old is currently the most-capped active player in the Super Eagles squad.
His appearance against Madagascar also strengthened his place among Nigeria’s elite group of centurions.
Iwobi is a member of the Super Eagles’ 100-cap club, alongside Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo and Moses Simon.
A victory over Guinea-Bissau would move Nigeria to the top of Group L and maintain their perfect start to the AFCON 2027 qualifying series.
The Super Eagles and Guinea-Bissau both head into the encounter on three points after winning their opening matches.
