Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly come to the aid of ailing Rivers indigene, Olaka Osaronu, by settling his hospital bills following an appeal for assistance on social media.
Osaronu, an indigene of Eleme Local Government Area, had been receiving medical treatment in hospital, prompting his friends and supporters to launch an online appeal for financial assistance through social media posts, tags, messages and calls.
According to his friend, Anointing Izidor, the appeal eventually attracted the attention of the Rivers State Government.
Izidor disclosed that following discussions with the state government, Fubara’s administration settled Osaronu’s outstanding hospital bills, including the cost of drugs and further treatment.
The intervention reportedly brought relief to Osaronu and his family, with the ailing indigene subsequently discharged from the hospital and returning home.
Expressing gratitude to the governor and the state government, Izidor also thanked individuals who contributed financially, shared the appeal, tagged relevant persons, sent messages, and offered prayers during the difficult period.
He described the intervention as a victory after what he called a long and difficult battle.
Izidor said the development also demonstrated how appeals for help on social media could reach individuals and authorities capable of making a difference.
“Finally, the Lord answered our prayers!” he wrote.
He added: “Thank you, Sir Fubara. Thank you, Rivers State Government. Thank you, my Facebook family.”
For Osaronu and those who supported him throughout his ordeal, the intervention has brought relief and marked the end of a difficult chapter.
