Pensioners in Rivers State have appealed to the state government to pay more than ₦100 billion allegedly owed them in outstanding pensions and gratuities.
The retirees appealed during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, where they expressed concern over the prolonged delay in receiving their entitlements.
According to the pensioners, the unpaid benefits have made life increasingly difficult for many retirees who depend on their pensions to meet their daily needs.
They urged the Rivers State Government to take immediate steps to clear the accumulated arrears, stressing that they served the state for many years and deserved to enjoy their retirement with dignity.
The pensioners also raised concerns over being denied access to their office, describing the situation as an additional challenge to their efforts to seek redress.
They called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure the payment of their outstanding pensions and gratuities.
The retirees said settling the arrears would provide relief to pensioners and help them cope with the rising cost of living.
