The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has directed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The decision was announced on Monday by the NFF Executive Committee, which asked all members of the Falcons’ technical crew to leave their positions with immediate effect.
The technical team was led by head coach Justin Madugu, alongside assistant coaches and other backroom staff. Madugu and Edwin Okon were appointed to the Falcons’ technical setup in November 2021.
The federation did not disclose specific reasons for the decision, but it comes after the nine-time African champions endured a disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign.

Nigeria suffered a shock defeat to tournament debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match before eventually exiting the competition in the quarter-finals after losing to eventual champions Cameroon.
The defeat ended the Falcons’ hopes of securing automatic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Nigeria were subsequently given another route through a playoff against South Africa but suffered another defeat, leaving the country without a World Cup ticket.
The latest shake-up comes months after the Super Eagles also failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to DR Congo on penalties in the African playoff final.
The NFF has yet to announce a replacement for the Super Falcons’ technical crew or reveal its plans for rebuilding the team ahead of upcoming international competitions.
With Nigeria’s women’s team now facing a major rebuilding phase, the key question is whether the NFF can appoint a new technical setup capable of restoring the Super Falcons to the global stage.
