The Isampou community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has expressed support for the emergence of High Chief Fidelis Agbiki as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Bayelsa West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.
A delegation from the community, led by its Paramount Ruler, His Royal Highness Edward Oyaotuderikumor, visited Governor Douye Diri to appreciate the consideration of Agbiki for the senatorial ticket.
The community’s spokesperson, High Chief Perekeme Bertola, said the people of Isampou had embraced Agbiki’s candidacy as a shared political project.
Bertola added that residents of Sagbama and Ekeremor Local Government Areas had begun mobilising support at the grassroots level to ensure the success of the candidate at the polls.
Responding to the delegation, Diri expressed support for Agbiki, describing his emergence as a decision that reflects fairness and equity within the Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
Diri said supporting credible candidates for elective offices was a tradition of political backing that had played a key role in his own rise in public service.
Diri praised Agbiki’s qualities, describing him as a person with strong knowledge of culture, tradition, and leadership.
He urged the people of the district to rally behind the APC candidate, stressing the need for unity and collective interest ahead of the election.
He said he was happy with this choice, noting that Agbiki is a man of deep wisdom and intellect.
Diri said he has the capacity and wherewithal to represent the state in the Senate.
