The Paramount Ruler of Iriebe Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, His Royal Highness King Jeremiah Wereonwu, has called on the Rivers State Government to urgently intervene and halt the alleged destructive activities of land invaders from neighbouring Umuebele Community in Etche Local Government Area.
In an interview with our correspondent, King Wereonwu stated that the boundary between the two communities was clearly demarcated by traditional rulers from both sides more than thirty years ago.
Despite this longstanding agreement, he claimed some individuals from Umuebele have persistently raided Iriebe, destroying properties belonging to indigenes.
“For a long time, we have endured these provocations while maintaining peace,” the monarch said.

He expressed surprise at the continued invasion, noting that the state boundary commission, chaired by the Rivers State Deputy Governor, is yet to conclude its assignment on the disputed border.
The traditional ruler warned that the people of Iriebe would no longer remain silent as their lands and properties are being destroyed and sold off by the invaders.
He urged the relevant authorities to intervene swiftly and ensure the protection of lives and property in the area.
“The boundary commission is still working on this matter. We appeal to the government to act before the situation escalates,” he added.
When contacted for comments on the allegations, Mr. Tony Anele of Umuebele declined to speak on the issue.
