The Bayelsa State Ministry of Education and House of Assembly, have reiterated their readiness to collaborate towards improving educational achievement and sustaining ongoing reforms within the education sector of the state.
This reaffirmation came after an inspection visit to the education ministry by the House Committee on Education of the Assembly.
Led by the Chairman, Dr. Charles Daniel Charles, the Committee visited the ministry’s secretariat in Yenagoa in fulfillment of its constitutional duties to assess the ministry’s projects and programmes.
The visit saw the legislators praise the efforts of the state government towards education, highlighting achievements in the sector in aspects including accreditation of programmes in tertiary institutions owned by the state, BayelsaPRIME basic education reform programme, construction of science and technical colleges, building of new schools and refurbishment of old ones.

The committee members expressed satisfaction with the ministry’s work and promised to give legislative backing for further educational gains for the residents of the state.
As a result, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, appreciated the committee for playing an overseeing role, adding that the link between the legislature and the ministry is very important for the growth of education in Bayelsa.
The commissioner also appreciated Governor Douye Diri for his efforts in developing education in the state, stating that the contribution of the government has revolutionized the education sector in Bayelsa State, thus making Bayelsa among the best states in education.
He further reiterated the commitment of the ministry towards the development of education in the state. Those present at the meeting included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Okene Simon-Peter; Directors of the Ministry of Education and Members of the House Committee on Education.
