The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to fostering public support, enhancing Civil-military cooperation, and promoting community development.
The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made the assertion at the commissioning of Community Primary and Secondary School Rumumasi in ObioAkpo local government area of Rivers State in Commemoration of Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADCEL 2026.
Lieutenant General Shaibu explained that under the civil-military cooperation project scheme, the Nigerian Army had successfully commissioned over 250 intervention projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to complement government infrastructure. These include the construction and rehabilitation of hospitals, schools, community town halls, laboratories, and roads, as well as the provision of solar lighting systems, boreholes, and ICT facilities. These projects are designed to complement existing infrastructure provided by the government,” the Army Chief said.
The COAS while commending the community for their support emphasized that the Army will continue to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies, as well as local government communities, to ensure a secured and enabling environment for social-economic development to thrive in the nation.
“As an army, we recognize the indispensable role that people play in supporting our efforts to achieve national security objectives within a joint, multifaceted, and dynamic security environment. Their trust, cooperation, and active participation remain vital to the success of our operations, as enduring security can only be achieved through strong partnership between the military, other security agencies, and the communities we have sworn to protect.
This understanding informs the essence of our non-kinetic operations within this civil-military cooperation project scheme, and remains the cornerstone of our efforts in this regard,” the COAS noted.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Etusi-Ndagi stated that the intervention projects carried out by the Nigerian Army was to contribute to educational development and ensuring conducive environment for learning for children in Rivers State.
The Chairman of ObioAkpo Local government area, Dr. Gift Worlu and the management of the community School commended the Nigerian Army for the gesture and promised to protect the facilities.
The event featured match pass, cultural display and presentation of portrait to the Army Chief by pupils and students of the school.
