The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has reiterated that the well-being of soldiers is a major determinant of the improvement in the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army.
This was during the inauguration of soldier welfare and infrastructure project at the headquarters of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
These projects include construction of new accommodations for soldiers and the establishment of Python Soldiers’ Club and RSM’s House.

In the Friday media release signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col Appolonia Anele, the projects were described as Soldier First Initiative of the Army meant to boost the welfare, morale and preparedness of soldiers.
According to the press release, COAS said the provision of comfortable and secure accommodation for soldiers and their family members is one of the priorities because this improves the well-being, administrative efficiency and combat effectiveness of soldiers.
The Army Chief added that the provision of welfare services for soldiers is crucial in creating a strong, flexible and professional Army.
Shaibu further stated that he is grateful for the resources provided by President Bola Tinubu, which have enhanced the welfare schemes and capabilities of the Nigerian Army.
During the inauguration of the Python Soldiers’ Club, the COAS explained that recreational facilities are essential in ensuring mental wellbeing and building the resilience of service members.
He continued that the facility will offer a suitable platform for service members to unwind after engaging in operations and foster unit cohesion.
COAS also commissioned the newly constructed RSM’s House.
He further described the following project as one that will promote leadership, discipline, and professionalism.
The notice highlighted that the Regimental Sergeants Major are significant in maintaining high standards and morale among others, and act as a link between officers and service members.
According to the Nigerian Army, the projects show its dedication towards the welfare of personnel.
