The Rivers State House of Assembly has received three significant reports from its Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, demonstrating continued commitment to addressing constituents’ grievances through legislative oversight.
The House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions presented the reports during the third sitting of the Fourth Session of the Tenth Assembly.
Committee Chairman, Hon. Enemi George, disclosed that the panel successfully resolved the crisis arising from oil spillage on the 24-inch Ogala-Bonny Pipeline caused by the activities of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited. He said the intervention brought about a peaceful settlement.
Hon. George also reported that the committee brokered peace in the petition filed by Mr. Bright and 15 others against Zest Optimal Global Services Ltd over alleged non-payment of contract entitlements.
On the third report, the committee expressed displeasure over the failure of NNPC Ltd to appear before it in respect of a petition by a cooperative group.
Members stressed that the committee remains a vital platform for citizens and communities who have exhausted other redress channels.
Ruling on the reports, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, who presided over the sitting, deferred further debate on the documents to a later legislative day.
He reiterated the Assembly’s resolve to tackle pressing public complaints while ensuring due process in legislative proceedings.
