The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday June 23, 2026 formally presented Certificates of Return to the winners of the June 20 bye-elections conducted across five states.
The certificates were handed over to victorious candidates from Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Kano states on behalf of INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, by the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.
While presenting the documents, Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the winners and charged them to justify the mandate given to them by their constituents.
“Serve your people diligently. The most important responsibility is to represent them well and deliver on their expectations,” she said.
The ceremony saw National Commissioners representing the various constituencies personally presenting the certificates to the elected officials, thereby officially affirming their status as duly returned winners.
Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu further disclosed that certificates would soon be presented to winners in Kebbi State for the Zuru State Constituency election and in Ekiti State for the governorship poll.
The June 20 bye-elections were held to fill vacant seats in the National and State Assemblies following deaths, resignations, and court rulings that nullified previous results in the affected areas.
The development brings to a close the electoral process for the affected positions, paving the way for the new representatives to assume office and begin legislative duties.
