The Federal Government has said digital technology will play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s future, particularly in driving economic growth, improving governance, and strengthening public service delivery.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja while declaring open the Digital Transformation Summit 2026.
Akume said Nigeria’s future prosperity depends on how effectively the country adopts and applies digital technology across key sectors of the economy and governance.
He described digital innovation as a key driver of national development and called for stronger collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.
The summit also marked the 20th anniversary of Galaxy Backbone Limited and brought together government officials, technology experts, and industry stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing digital governance.
Akume said Galaxy Backbone has become a critical national asset, providing digital infrastructure, cloud services, secure connectivity, and cybersecurity solutions that support government operations across the country.
He noted that the digital transformation agenda of the Bola Tinubu government aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises innovation, institutional efficiency, transparency, and economic growth.
According to him, achieving Nigeria’s digital ambitions will require sustained investment in infrastructure, stronger partnerships, and institutions capable of delivering services at scale.
Akume urged public institutions and state governments to take advantage of existing digital infrastructure to improve governance and service delivery across the country.
He commended Galaxy Backbone for its role in supporting Ministries, Departments and Agencies, describing it as a key partner in Nigeria’s ongoing digitalisation drive.
