An infant male child who is two weeks old has been saved from alleged abandonment at a nearby shrine in Abua, located in Abua/Odual Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The child was reportedly saved by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Rivers State Branch, along with the police, says Revelation report disclosure on Wednesday.
This came after they received credible reports on 14 June, 2026, concerning the abandoned child.

Tamunoibuemi Life-George, Esq., Chairperson of FIDA, Rivers State Chapter, confirmed this, adding that the child has been quickly traced and safely evacuated.
“We immediately escalated the incident and got the child rescued through the support of the police,” she stated.
Initial investigations showed that the child was first left under the care of his father due to a lack of ability to meet his basic needs.
However, it was reported that the grandfather of the boy took him away and abandoned him at the shrine.
After the rescue, FIDA made sure the child received an immediate medical examination in Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH).
This is where the child is currently undergoing medical attention. FIDA further gave emergency help to the young mother so that she could continue breast-feeding.
Life-George explained that even though the baby was currently doing well, further medical assessment would still be needed to get a full insight into the child’s state of health.
Further, Life-George said that at the moment FIDA is urgently seeking funds to conduct medical diagnosis and provide nutritional supplements to the mother and the baby. This would include clothing and other necessities like diapers.
FIDA encouraged well-wishers to assist in this intervention by donating some money which could be channelled through FIDA Legal Center at NBA House, Bank Road, Opposite Port Harcourt City Council, Rivers State.
