The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has expressed sympathy on Friday, for Rivers United players and officials who sustained minor injuries in a road accident as the Port Harcourt club were travelling to Awka in Anambra State for a President Federation Cup Round of 16 tie against Nasarawa United.
“The NFF received with shock the news of the road accident involving your players and officials around the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt while on the way to a President Federation Cup Round of 16 match in Awka, Anambra State.
“While we thank God that there were no fatalities, we empathise with those who sustained minor injuries in the accident and wish them quick recovery,” NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi said.
According to the fixtures released by the NFF, Rivers United FC are to take on Nasarawa United FC in Awka on Saturday with a kickoff set for 4pm, with the winner going through to the quarter-finals of this year’s competition.
While the club already confirmed that some players and officials sustained minor injuries in the accident. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities or life-threatening injuries reported. All affected individuals are currently receiving appropriate medical attention and are in stable condition.”
Rivers United fans suggested that it will be tremendous that the officials of the President Federation Cup and its management put some facts into consideration and postpone the encounter between Rivers United and Nasarawa United.
The reason is not far-fetched, as it stands, no one knows the psychological state of the players after the accident issue. They might not be physically injured, but they might be mentally injured.
