The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the legal community to accelerate development in the region through robust legal frameworks.
Speaking at the NDDC Law and Development Summit 2026 held in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, June 3, the Commission’s chief executive, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasised that law serves as a critical tool for social engineering, economic progress, environmental protection, and institutional accountability.
Dr. Ogbuku said the event was a fulfilment of a pledge made last year in Enugu during the 65th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), where the NDDC leadership promised closer ties with the legal profession.

The Commission specially commended Mr. Henry Odien Ajumogobia for his insightful keynote address and the NBA President for his valuable contributions to the summit’s success.
The NDDC leadership expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their continued collaboration in pursuit of good governance and prosperity for the people of the Niger Delta.
The summit, themed “The Role of Law in Driving Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta Region,” brought together legal practitioners, judges, policymakers, environmental experts, academics, and civil society groups to explore how effective legislation and governance can fast-track sustainable transformation.
