Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has shared that he felt a rare sense of insecurity after his personal information with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was reportedly made public.
In an interview on News Central Television, the House of Representatives candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) called the incident related to the FCT data leak an abuse of authority. He also confirmed that he has started legal action against Lere Olayinka, the media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
He mentioned that the situation left him feeling unsettled and raised wider concerns about the safety of citizens’ information and governance in Nigeria.
“I felt insecure. For the first time, I’m feeling like, ‘Is anybody saving this country anymore?’
“It was shocking. It was so disturbing that I felt unsafe. Like that kind of feeling, that’s what it was like to me, like it’s an abuse of power. This is the extreme of radicalism. Political radicalism basically tells Nigerians that ‘we are in charge.’
“Obviously, I will go to court, and my lawyer has already written to Lere and INEC. He has also informed my party, the DSS, and the police so that it can be on record that incidents like this have happened in Nigeria,” he said.
He added that his legal team has reached out to the relevant parties, including the Department of State Services (DSS), INEC, his political party, and other security agencies to officially document the incident and ensure accountability.
