The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has been nominated by the APC to administer the party’s presidential primaries in the state following his resignation from participating in the APC’s gubernatorial primary in the state.
Fubara announced his withdrawal from running in the APC gubernatorial primary only two days before this political appointment in a bid to promote peace in the state.
According to the list released by the party’s National Secretariat, Fubara is among the serving governors nominated by the party to coordinate the APC presidential primary in the country scheduled for Sunday, 24th May, 2026.
According to the guidelines released by the National Secretary of APC, Ajibola Basiru, the party will utilize a Direct Primary System in nominating its presidential candidate in the upcoming general elections.
Every registered member of the APC will be allowed to vote in the process to be conducted in the 8,809 wards in Nigeria.
As such, Fubara will be the coordinator of the party in the state, taking charge of conducting the exercise in all of its 23 LGAs.
While the inclusion of Fubara on the list of coordinators highlights his continuing political influence in the APC structure despite withdrawing his name in the election for the state governorship post,
Other governors are Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos) Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Hyacinth Alia (Benue).
The collation of results in the state supervised by Fubara will involve collating the result at ward and LGA levels before submission to the main collation centre in Abuja on completion of the voting process on May 24.
The presidential primary will be organised by the committee headed by former Senate President, Pius Anyim, with Senator Sanusi Musa as secretary.
An independent appeal committee was put in place, chaired by Ali Ndume, for any dispute emanating from the countrywide process.
The political party has also stated that all processes will be carried out in strict accordance with the guidelines submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 15th May 2026.
