Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has sparked political discussions online after calling out Nigeria’s Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, over an alleged political plan.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, shared his thoughts on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday. He criticized the former Osun State governor, labeling him a desperate politician and asserting that any strategy he was allegedly planning would fail.
“The most desperate politician in the world is @GboyegaOyetola. Very embarrassing. Oyetola, your plan no go work,” he wrote.
Although Davido did not give specific details about the alleged plan, many believe his comment relates to the rising political tension in Osun State, especially with the governorship election set for August 15, 2026.
Davido has been actively engaged in the state’s political scene for years, mainly due to his strong support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is running for re-election in the upcoming election. Reports suggest that the singer recently announced a short break from music to focus on his uncle’s campaign.
Outside of politics, the Afrobeats star has continued to make headlines in the entertainment world. He recently gained international attention after being announced as one of the artists performing at the prestigious Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where he represented Nigeria and Afrobeats on a major stage.
He has also revealed plans to host his first major curated music festival titled “Davido and Friends,” which is set to take place in London in August 2026. This event is expected to gather several top artists and fans from around the world.
