The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has released its timetable for the 2027 general elections, announcing that aspirants seeking its presidential ticket will pay N60 million, while governorship hopefuls are expected to pay N30 million for nomination processes.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, alongside the National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
According to the statement, the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and close on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The party explained that the screening and interview of aspirants would hold from May 19 to May 21, noting that only candidates cleared during the process would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.
It added that the sale of nomination forms would commence immediately after the screening exercise, running from May 21 to May 23, while completed forms are expected to be submitted on or before May 25, 2026.
The NDC also stated that appeals from the screening process would be handled between May 25 and 26, while primary elections for different elective positions are scheduled for May 27 and 28.
According to the timetable, the party’s presidential primary election will take place in Abuja on May 29, 2026.
The opposition party further disclosed that aspirants for State Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be conducted at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
It also noted that governorship primaries would be held at the local government level and that all aspirants must sign an undertaking in line with the party’s guidelines and code of conduct.
The NDC said it had adopted the open secret ballot system for its primaries, describing the move as part of efforts to promote fairness, transparency, and internal democracy.
Giving a breakdown of the fees, the party said aspirants for State Houses of Assembly would pay N1 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N1.5 million for the Nomination Form.
House of Representatives aspirants are expected to pay N2 million and N4 million respectively, while Senate aspirants will pay N3 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N5 million for the Nomination Form.
Governorship aspirants are to pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N20 million for the Nomination Form, bringing the total amount to N30 million.
For the presidential race, aspirants will pay N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form, amounting to N60 million in total.
The party, however, announced a reduction in fees for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities. It stated that women would pay 50 per cent of the approved fees, while persons living with disabilities would pay only 25 per cent across all categories.
The NDC maintained that its fees remain lower than those charged by some major political parties and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
