The Rivers State based produced film The Boy Who Gave is set for nationwide cinema release on May 15, 2026, following its recognition on the international film festival circuit.
The drama, written, directed and produced by Allison Precious Emmanuel, was shot in Bonny Island, Rivers State, and has been widely regarded as one of the notable independent film projects emerging from the Niger Delta.
The production also shows the growing contribution of Rivers-based filmmakers to Nigeria’s movie industry.
The Boy Who Gave tells the story of a young boy who becomes responsible for raising his younger siblings after the death of their parents, forcing him to sacrifice his education and personal ambitions in order to support his family.
Ahead of its cinema rollout, the film gained industry attention after screening at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it received nominations in several major categories including Best Actor, Best Director and Best Feature Film.
The recognition at AFRIFF has helped position the project among the emerging independent productions gaining traction within Nollywood, while also bringing attention to creative talents from Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
The film features a cast that includes Tina Mba, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Abbey Delight Dagogo and Hart Andrew, alongside Emmanuel who also plays the lead role.
With production rooted in Rivers State and recognition from one of Africa’s leading film festivals, The Boy Who Gave is expected to draw interest and more investment into the State’s entertainment aspect.
