Fubara Receives APC Membership Card After Defection from PDP

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Friday received his All Progressives Congress (APC) membership card, days after he defected to the party from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tony Okocha, the state APC Chairman, presented the card to the governor at the Government House in Port Harcourt on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

Also present during the presentation were the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and other party leaders.

Speaking after receiving his card, Fubara expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and disclosed that he had joined the party for the safety, protection, progress, and development of the state.

The governor maintained that he would work with the state chapter of the party and the national leadership to ensure Rivers State achieved its goals.

“It is a spiritual assignment because if you had listened to me when I took this decision, it was for the safety, protection, progress, and development of our dear state. Thank you, my chairman, for taking this up. As he said, it is a spiritual assignment,” Fubara said.

He added that he would do everything possible to support Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 election, which he said formed part of his plan for unity and stability in the state.

Fubara urged party members to work hard and promote the party’s message across the state, noting that Rivers State could not act independently or work against the federal government.

He also promised to take personal responsibility for the growth of the party within the state and said every need of the APC in Rivers State would be addressed under his leadership.

Furthermore, he appreciated party leaders for their support, encouraged unity among members, and urged them to spread the party’s message widely to ensure success in future elections.

Speaking, Okocha said he presented the card to Fubara on the instructions of Yilwatda.
