The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) expired pharmaceutical products valued at ₦3.7 billion from Customs to NAFDAC.

In a statement on its X page on Wednesday, August 27, Customs said the action underscored the joint effort by both agencies to remove unsafe medications from circulation.

Customs and the NAFDAC also renewed their commitment to fighting the circulation of fake and substandard drugs in Nigeria.

Customs said the renewed collaboration was highlighted during a visit by NAFDAC officials to the NCS Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A.

Comptroller Muhammed Shuaibu, the head of FOU Zone A, stated that the partnership aligns with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.

Shuaibu stressed the urgent need to eradicate substandard products from the market to safeguard public health.

Also, Martin Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, praised the Customs Comptroller-General’s leadership, noting that his “visionary leadership” led to the formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies.

Furthermore, Olakunle Olaniran, NAFDAC’s Director of Ports Inspection, emphasised that there is no longer a place for falsified products in the country.

Meanwhile, Customs, in its debut appearance at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) International Business Conference and Expo 2025, highlighted its commitment to modernising trade processes.

Speaking on behalf of Adeniyi, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Charles Orbih of Zone A said the Service’s participation signals a new era of transparency and innovation.

The Customs’ pavilion at the event, themed “Invest Nigeria” was set up to demonstrate how digital solutions are enhancing trade facilitation and revenue collection.

A key highlight was the Unified Customs Management System, a new platform codenamed B’Odogwu.

According to the NCS, this resilient and error-free system is designed to reduce delays and ensure swift clearance of goods, thereby boosting business efficiency.
