Nigerian superstar Rema has made history with his debut album Rave & Roses (Ultra version), becoming the first African artist to cross the 3 billion streams mark on Spotify. This monumental achievement underscores the global rise of Afrobeats and Rema’s dominance in the international music scene.
The album’s smash hit, Calm Down (Remix)—a collaboration with Selena Gomez—was a major driver of this success. Last year, the track became the first African song ever to surpass 1 billion streams on the platform.

Together, the original and remix versions of Calm Down accounted for more than two-thirds of the album’s total streams, while the other 20 tracks contributed the remaining portion.
Trailing behind Rave & Roses is South African breakout star Tyla’s debut album, which has garnered over 2 billion streams. Rema’s record-breaking accomplishment not only sets a new benchmark for African artists but also signals the continent’s expanding influence in global pop culture.
