The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has secured a court order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to upload and use the party’s modified digital logo contained in its constitution.
The party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson made this known in a statement posted on his X platform, saying the judgment was delivered by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice J. O. Abdulmalik.
According to him, the party had submitted its modified logo to INEC after its first National Executive Council, NEC, meeting, following which the commission uploaded it.
The former governor of Bayelsa State, however, said INEC subsequently removed the modified logo and reverted to the logo with which the association was originally registered.
He said the party, after waiting for INEC to resolve the issue, was compelled to approach the court.
Mr. Dickson said the judgment directed INEC to “forthwith upload and utilise” the modified digital logo.
The party leader commended the judiciary for what he described as a timely intervention, saying the judgment had upheld the party’s position and ensured that due process was respected.
He urged the party’s candidates and members to immediately begin using the approved logo in campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.
He acknowledged that some candidates and members might have already produced campaign materials bearing the earlier logo, but urged them to switch to the logo approved in the party’s constitution.
According to Dickson, both logos carry the two-finger victory sign, but the modified logo is the one constitutionally approved by the party and, he claimed, more widely recognised.
He assured party members that there was no cause for panic over the development, saying the NDC had experienced and strategic leaders capable of managing the situation.
“I want to assure everyone that the party has experienced and strategic leaders who understand what we are doing. Therefore, nobody should panic,” he said.
Mr. Dickson described the dispute over the logo as part of what he called “administrative machinations” the party had continued to face, but said the NDC remained prepared to defend its interests through lawful means.
“We are democratic fighters. We do not run away from battles,” he said.
He said the party would issue a formal statement and embark on publicity to guide its candidates and members on the use of the logo, while also sensitizing voters ahead of the elections.
Mr. Dickson thanked party members, candidates and supporters for their patience and understanding, urging them to remain focused on the party’s activities.
