Tinubu Directs Military to Decisively Neutralise Threats to Nigeria’s Unity

President Bola Tinubu has issued a clear mandate to the Nigerian military. Tinubu gave the mandate through his Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the grand finale of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) held at Murtala Square in Kaduna.
Tinubu directed the military to take swift and unhesitating action against all groups undermining the nation’s unity and territorial integrity.

He said the directive underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to empowering the Armed Forces and other security agencies in their critical mission to secure the country.
Tinubu told the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army that their moment to act is now, adding that they have his complete authorisation and full confidence of the Nigerian populace to confront and overcome those who seek to destabilise the country.

The President characterised terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and separatism as existential dangers that must be eradicated. He guaranteed robust government backing for the military, promising modern weaponry, actionable intelligence, and enhanced welfare provisions.

According to Tinubu, the destructive forces show no bias as they indiscriminately attack places of worship and leave children orphaned, irrespective of origin or belief.
Tinubu noted that under this government, the well-being and operational strength of the armed forces remain the highest priority.

President Tinubu also took a moment to honour the nation’s fallen heroes and injured personnel, acknowledging their profound sacrifices made in the service of the country.
He extended commendation to military families for their resilience, specifically recognising the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) for their steadfast support on the home front.

In his address, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, reiterated the Nigerian Army’s historical significance as a bedrock of national unity since its establishment in 1863.
He highlighted that the ongoing transformation within the Army is fundamentally centred on fostering professionalism and ensuring the welfare of its troops.
Oluyede assured Nigerians of the Army’s unwavering resolve to neutralise all security threats and safeguard the country’s sovereignty, emphasising their collaborative efforts with the Navy, Air Force, and other security organisations.

The 2025 NADCEL grand finale showcased a military parade, sophisticated tactical demonstrations, an exhibition of advanced military hardware, and various displays demonstrating the operational readiness of different Army corps.
