The Rivers State Government has hired a few health workers out of over 27,000 healthcare applicants, while also calling on them to uphold the highest standards of professional service.
The total number of employees was not available at the time of publication.
Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the state’s Commissioner for Health, delivered a pointed charge during a one-day orientation for new employees at the Ministry of Women Affairs auditorium. She emphasized that the success of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s healthcare vision depends critically on the commitment of these new staff members.
“You are among the fortunate few selected from thousands of applicants,” Oreh told the new employees, underscoring the competitive nature of the hiring process.
The recruitment comes as part of a broader initiative to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure. Dr. Bright Ogbonda, Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State Hospital Management Board, confirmed that over 27,000 individuals applied for the positions.
Dr. Mekele Igwe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, praised Governor Fubara’s employment initiative. He urged the new employees to demonstrate their gratitude through dedicated service and contributions to the state’s health sector.

As part of the healthcare expansion, Ogbonda also highlighted the governor’s approval for remodeling zonal hospitals and procuring new equipment for general hospitals across the state.
