Flood sack communities in Emohua and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas

More communities in Rivers State have been submerged under the water following the ravaging flood across the country.

Some parts of the Rumuekpe community in the Emohua Local Government Area are now underwater because of the rising water level.

Our correspondent who visited the area reports that over 20 houses in Rumuekpe were affected, while the residents are now taking shelter at the community primary school in Rumuekpe as their internally displaced person camp.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Chidi Lloyd who led the team of the Rivers State flood management Task Force to the affected areas, commended the Governor for the prompt intervention.

The Emohua Council Chairman, Chidi Lloyd said other victims who are yet to be evacuated will be moved out to safer ground.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Rivers State Flood Management Task Force, George Nwaeke, who also led members of his team, said the affected people in Emohua will get relief materials.

George Nwaeke, however, commended the chairman of Emohua Local Government Area for his proactive measures in attending to the needs of the flood victims.

Some of the people who were hurt by the flood in Rumuekpe in Emohua were glad that the state government came to their aid.

In Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, the people of the Elen sangama community have called on the Rivers State Flood Committee to come to their aid after the rising water submerged parts of their community.

The flood victims in Elen sangama made the appeal when the chairman of the Akuku Toru Local Government Council, Roland SEKIBO went for the spot assessment of the flood situation in the area.

The flood victims also called on the federal government for assistance.

The Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Council, Roland Sekibo while addressing journalists during the flood assessment affirmed that the community is in dire need of help as the effect of the flood is enormous on the people.

Roland Sekibo, who presented some relief materials to the flood victims said the council will continue to assist the flood victims within the capacity of the local government council.

He said that efforts are being made to reach out to the Rivers State Flood Committee to provide further assistance to the displaced people.
