Gunmen kill pastor, injure scores, burn houses in Rivers community

There is tension in Oloko Community in Tai local government area of Rivers State following the killing of a pastor identified as Abraham Yorka and the inflicting of others with severe machete and bullets wounds by gunmen alleged to be members of OSPAC from a neighbouring Community in Oyigbo Local Government Area.

An Oloko community indigene, Monday Piit, who spoke to our correspondent narrated that on Thursday, at about 2:30pm, they took a break to eat while working on a farm located along the boundary with Afam in Oyigbo when they suddenly heard women and children in the farmland screaming.

He said that the next they heard were gunshots which made them to scamper for safety.

Piit disclosed that the gunmen macheted as well as shot at people, burnt houses and also burnt his motorcycle which he abandoned along the roadside while fleeing for safety.

He said Oloko community got to know from some of the youths that escaped the assailants’ attack, that the people who perpetrated the act were OSPAC members allegedly from a neighbouring Community in Oyigbo LGA.

Piit also claimed that some natives of Oloko community are still missing, while some with serious machete and gunshot wounds are battling for survival in the hospital.

Also, a victim who sustained bullet wounds on his leg and hand, Sunday Vasighe, alleged that the gunmen who shot him were OSPAC members from neighbouring Community in Oyigbo LGA.

The victim, however, called on the Rivers State Government and the Police to intervene and ensure that the perpetrators of the act are brought to book, noting the incident has been reported to Koroma-Tai Police Division in Tai Local Government Area.

As at press time, the acting spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, DSP Grace Koko is yet to respond to text messages sent to her mobile line.
